Windows 8 is a unique OS in the whole Windows family. It was the turning point when Microsoft completely redesigned their OS and started with a fresh and modern User Interface (the Windows 8 UI).

The new look of Windows 8 got the attention of many people. Thus developers started building apps for Windows 8. Also, some apps like Google Chrome were modified a little bit for Windows 8 OS.

You may notice Chrome Windows 8 mode while using Chrome on Windows 8 PC. This mode provides you a distraction-free web browsing experience, as it hides the taskbar and other things. However, one of the biggest disadvantages of Chrome’s Windows 8 mode is – you can’t easily access other applications while browsing the web on Chrome (because the taskbar will be hidden).

Thus, Chrome’s Windows 8 mode can be a nightmare for the people who do multitasking on their computer. This is the reason why after trying this feature for the first time, I nearly instantly said no to it. I switched back to the normal mode of chrome ASAP.

Disabling Chrome’s Windows 8 Mode

  • Open Google Chrome.
  • Click on the hamburger icon at the top right edge of the chrome window to open the menu.
  • Next, you need to click on the fifth item from the top called “Relaunch Chrome on the Desktop.”
  • Now Chrome will close and restart in the Normal Mode. Yeah, it’s that easy :).

My Conclusion

A few hours back I was checking some chrome features, that’s when I found the option called “Relaunch Chrome in Windows 8 Mode” I immediately click on that button to check what it does. After clicking, I discovered that –“if you are using Windows 8 or any latest version of Windows (after Windows 8), you can quickly run chrome in a particular mode called Windows 8 mode”.

The User interface of that mode is like Chrome OS. And after few minutes, I figured out that chrome windows 8 mode is a nightmare for the people who do multitasking and use other applications like Photoshop or Word on the go. That’s why I don’t like the Chrome Windows 8 Mode. It’s quite useless to me.
